Darkness, whether within or without us, always activates fear, which can transform into a demon that deprives us of everything that makes us human – the faculties of the rational mind, the correctness of the moral compass, and the non-discrimination of the compassionate heart. Therefore, everything we do becomes an act of awakened animal instincts, driven by a single desire: to survive at all costs, even if the price is the suffering of others. And although afterwards, to assuage our guilty conscience, a clever and creative Ego will always find the believable justifications, deep down we will be aware that our heart has just been swallowed by the darkness that has forever stained our soul.
