Fruits ripen at different speeds, some slower, some faster, but always gradually. However, when full maturity is reached, not a single fruit falls to the ground gradually, but in one fell swoop. Spiritual maturation is no different - while the path is always gradual, the fall into the timeless and spaceless Self will always be instantaneous and irreversible. Thus, the vehicles we use when traveling or falling also have different properties - while meditation takes on different forms adapted to the terrain, zazen always resembles the wingsuit with which we fall into the abyss of the Self.
