Herbal medicine

Although today’s science can estimate the nutritional and healing power of herbs by determining their properties: content of proteins, vitamins, minerals and chemical compounds, herbal medicine is still deeply rooted in the profound knowledge of the past. Especially monks and hermits have relied heavily on nature in their diet and healing. They tried to understand how different parts of plants, their harvest time or their different mixtures can maintain health or affect healing. By cultivating and experimenting with various herbs, they gathered the knowledge and experience that was written down and transmitted from generation to generation.

Nowadays, the importance of proper harvesting and processing techniques is often forgotten. Also the union of healer, patient and herbs is not pursued. However, the healing effect can only be fully developed if laws of nature are embraced, processes of the heaven and the earth are grasped, and the human nature is understood.
