Reading spiritual books is like visiting a temple. It may bring you peace and comfort, but it cannot teach you how to build the temple itself unless you put the words in action.

One could argue that we are not told what or who could teach us how to build the temple. In which case it is not so bad to find peace and comfort 🤔. This being said, I recently found out that I had been living for a long time with the illusion that I was a spiritual person just by reading interesting spiritual books. This truth emerged as a result of Zazen practice. A painful wake up! I must say.
